Public Venues

At a public show, Carla tailors her material to fit the needs of the venue. She highlights her own original material (much of it written in a traditional vein), stories about the songs and the Appalachian culture, traditional pieces, and mountain flatfooting. She regularly appears both solo and with select acoustic musicians as the situation demands.

Carla has performed at well-known concert venues and festivals around the country and abroad, including the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), Celtic Connections (Glasgow, Scotland), the Copenhagen Blues Festival (Copenhagen, Denmark), and the Freight & Salvage (Berkeley, CA).

Festivals

Carla is a versatile addition to music festivals. In addition to presenting her own mix of original songs, traditional ballads and tunes, clawhammer banjo and clogging on the mainstage, she is a lively addition to the kid's stage. he can also lead workshops for children and adults in clogging, songwriting, and clawhammer banjo. She often participates in songwriting round-robins and theme circles about subjects like "New Songs That Sound Old", "Songs of Social Justice", "Women's Voices in Mountain Music", and "Environmental Songs".

She has performed at festivals around the world, including Merlefest (Wilkesboro, NC), Seedtime On The Cumberland (Whitesburg, KY), Copenhagen Blues Festival (Copenhagen, Denmark), and Common Ground On The Hill Festival(Westminster, MD).

K-12 Assemblies and Residencies

Carla has performed for literally thousands of elementary, middle and high school students worldwide. Her shows will take you on a lively, interactive journey through the rich and varied musical traditions of our state, featuring banjo, guitar, vocal harmonies, flatfoot dancing, sing-alongs, and lots of stories and information about the people and culture of the Appalachian region.

Libraries

Carla often performs for library concert series, children's events, and seasonal events such as Women's History Month at public libraries. She performs solo and with back-up musicians, and intersperses her original and traditional tunes with stories and information about life in the mountains. She also offers workshops in conjunction with her shows, including clogging, banjo, songwriting, and mixed-media journaling.

House Concerts

Each year Carla plays a limited number of concerts at the personal residence of fans all across the country. The intimate setting of your home is a fantastic way to see and share live music. It is an excellent way to introduce Carla's music to your friends in a unique concert experience. Here's what you need to do:

- Find a suitable space in your home (most likey your living room, dining room, etc.) where your guests can be seated in comfort.

- As a host, you can serve snacks and drinks or even go with the potluck dinner concept. Be creative! The whole idea is for the audience to have the opportunity to experience Carla in concert in a small, intimate setting.

- Depending on the size of the room and audience, you may need to provide a sound system.

- Hosts often also provide a night's lodging based on the situation

Colleges and Universities

Carla Gover graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. In Appalachian Studies before becoming a full-time professional songwriter and performer. In addition to performing concerts at colleges and universities across the country, Carla is often invited to be a guest lecturer on topics as diverse as Appalachian values, culture and traditions, songwriting and the business of music, spirituality, and women in Appalachia. Carla is often invited to be a speaker, a panelist, a performer and/or an instructor at conferences and workshops throughout the country. She also is often invited to teach Clogging, Songwriting, Clawhammer Banjo, and Mixed-Media Journaling Classes.
